In IV therapy the specialty pharmaceutical is often administer using a drip chamber.  This method prevents air from entering the blood stream and causing air embolism; the drip chamber also allows for a rough estimate of flow rate.  A wide range of fluids can be administer using a drip chamber: blood products, medication, buffer solutions and etc.

Infusion pumps are used to control the flow rate into the delivery line and in cases were continuous fluid delivery is critical to the therapy, a level sensor is attached to the drip chamber.  This sensor provides an early alarm signal that the IV bag is empty and the healthcare staff can replace it.

Recommend Drip Chamber Size:    12mm (1/2″) up to 26mm (1″) diameter

Setup Procedure

  1.  Attach sensor to the drip chamber and pick a level point with fluid.
  2.  Turn the potentiometer up until the output LED turns ON.
  3.  Slowly turn the potentiometer down until the output LED turns OFF.
  4.  Slowly turn the potentiometer back up until the output LED turns ON, then STOP.
  5.  When fluid drops below the sensing line, the output LED will turn OFF.
